Romantic Things to do in Kansas City

By Gary R. Hess. Category: Romance

Having a romantic evening in Kansas City may seem hard right now, but that's just because you don't know where to look. KC may be known for its barbecue, but it is much, much more than that. Fantastic museums, a great zoo, and one of the best jazz scenes in the world are just a few ideas from a long list of things to do on Valentine's day or just a night out.

  1. Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

This is often considered one of the best Art museums in the United States. It is known for its extensive neo-classical architecture, Asian art, and the giant shuttlecocks.

  2. Stroll along the Country Club Plaza

The Plaza is full of great food, entertainment, plenty of fountains and great places to shop.

  3. Science City at Union Station (for the more nerdy couples)

A great hands-on science center. Tons of things to do and look at, ok, touch!

  4. Kansas City Zoo

The zoo is ranked among the best in the United States. It has one of the most extensive Australian animal exhibits and one of the finest chimpanzee exhibits in North America. After the recent zoo additions (and there are many more to come), the KC Zoo is a can't miss if you are in the area.

  5. Toy and Miniature Museum

The museum holds the largest collection of classic toys and miniatures in the Midwest. This might sound boring, but once you actually see it you will be amazed.

  6. Worlds of Fun

This amusement park is great for the couple who just wants to have fun. If you haven't been for a while, there are new rides and things to do.

  7. Loose Park Rose Garden

Since roses are seen as *the* romantic flower, taking a stroll in an entire garden of them is just that much more romantic. Perfect for anniversaries or birthdays.

  8. 18th and Vine

A walk through African American history. Negro leagues museum, American Jazz Museum, Blue Room jazz club highlight the area. After viewing the historical aspects, walk into the Blue Room for some soothing music.

  9. Christopher Elbow Chocolates

Elbow's chocolates are consistently voted as some of the top chocolates in Food & Wine magazine. At 1819 McGee Street you can find a great place to enjoy the deliciousness of his chocolates and much more. Perfect for Valentine's day.

  10. Starlight Theatre (open only in the summer)

An amazing outdoor theater. Nope, not a drive-in. Sit under the stars and watch a movie.

  11. Kansas City Symphony

KC has one of the best symphony orchestras in the Midwest, so why not take advantage of it. The orchestra currently plays in the Lyric Theatre, but will soon move to the Kauffman Performing Arts Center in 2011.

  12. Coco Key Water Resort

The Coco Key Water Resort is *the* premiere indoor water park and hotel in the United States. It isn't all about slides and pools either. The resort also has a large screen theater, a spa, and a tanning deck.

Although Kansas City isn't exactly New York City, there are still a ton of romantic things to do and something for everyone.
